New Konya Stadium Electrical heated multi-purpose stadium

A state-of-the-art stadium in central Turkey, isn’t just an architectural icon — it’s a case study in precision heating technology meeting elite sports performance. Opened in 2014 and seating over 42,000 spectators, this stadium was not only built to host Super Lig matches but also to meet FIFA's highest standards for international play.

What most fans don’t see, however, lies beneath the pristine green surface: a fully integrated DEVI electric field heating system, ensuring optimal pitch conditions in every season.

The challenge: High standards for stadiums - eliminating risk

Purpose of the system
Today’s sports arenas are being turned into the most modern multifunctional buildings around that must be able to host sport games and events irrespective of weather conditions. The biggest challenge
is to maintain the field in a perfect condition with all the games on, the tough weather conditions and in some situations the other events that are taking place on the field.

Electrical heating is the nr. 1 solution
To work around this, electrical heating for sports fields is in most cases the multipurpose solution to take on many of these challenges. Not only does it very efficiently and energy aware prevent the field from being hit with frost and or snow when this is needed, it also serves as a growth and restoration stimulator for the grass.
All this ensures a better pitch that can be used to the max irrespective of the season or location.

The solution: A football stadium equipped with electric heating

So why use electrical heating
The main factor to go for electrical heating is the it is simple and hassle-free compared to other solutions where more mechanical equipment is needed to ensure the system is performed well besides the risk of breaking down because of weather conditions.

The system installed under the pitch of Torku Arena comprises kilometers of high-performance heating cables, designed to:

  • Maintain consistent soil temperature during frost periods.

  • Prevent match cancellations due to snow, ice, or frozen ground.

  • Support grass growth and recovery even in harsh Turkish winters.

The system is equipped with smart thermostats and advanced sensor technology, offering automatic regulation based on soil temperature and ambient weather conditions.
Key Highlight: The Konya Arena field is kept at an ideal root-zone temperature of 6–9°C, as required by FIFA pitch standards, ensuring player safety and playability.

The Result:

Compliance with FIFA & UEFA Standards

FIFA regulations require that pitches for international and top-level matches be natural turf or approved hybrids and maintained at a playable state year-round. The DEVI system not only meets but exceeds these standards by offering:

  • Even temperature distribution across all field zones.

  • Zero risk of surface hardening due to freezing.

  • Seamless integration with the stadium’s Building Management System (BMS).
