The challenge: How to prevent condensation between storage and office rooms
The Woolworths Distribution Centre encountered a critical safety and operational challenge stemming from condensation issues. These problems arose due to significant temperature differences between their cold storage facility and the surrounding office spaces. This temperature disparity led to the formation of condensation, which in turn resulted in water dripping onto surfaces in various parts of the building.
This issue was particularly problematic in high-traffic areas such as meeting rooms, the canteen, and office spaces. Not only did this create slipping hazards, posing a risk to staff safety, but it also impacted the comfort and functionality of these workplace facilities. Employees faced discomfort in their daily work environment, and the risk of accidents became a growing concern.
Given the distribution center's vital role in managing a high turnover of inventory to support Woolworths’ extensive network of Victorian supermarkets, addressing this challenge was imperative. A robust and effective solution was necessary to mitigate safety risks, maintain a comfortable working environment for employees, and ensure the uninterrupted operation of this essential facility.

The solution: Implementing an efficient electric heating system to prevent condensation
In partnership with Heat Zone Distribution, Woolworths installed an advanced electric heating solution tailored to control temperature variations and prevent condensation.
The 700.71 m² area was divided into four designated zones, with thermostats integrated directly into switchboards to create an automated, "set-and-forget" control system.
This system, featuring products like the DEVIsnow 30T, DEVIbasic Drum Goods, DEVIreg 330, and DEVIbasic 10S, provides precise and efficient heating across all areas affected by condensation.
NWR Electrical Services managed the installation, ensuring that the electric heating cables were seamlessly embedded within the facility.
With a total power of 2743.21 W, this system offered an efficient solution that was easy to maintain and minimized upfront costs.

The Result: Enhanced safety and operational efficiency for Woolworths Distribution Centre
With the electric heating system in place, Woolworths Distribution Centre successfully resolved the condensation problem, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for staff and visitors alike.
The heating solution effectively eliminated water-dripping hazards, reducing maintenance needs and enhancing workplace safety. This improvement allowed the facility to continue supporting Woolworths’ fresh food distribution to over 230 Victorian supermarkets with optimal efficiency and without compromising safety. Additionally, the automated temperature regulation provides long-term operational benefits, reducing the need for manual adjustments and ensuring the facility operates smoothly year-round.
