The long history of electric heating began in 1942 when DEVI, short for Dansk El-Varme Industri, was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1960, DEVI began producing electric heating cables, primarily for frost protection on cold storage doors. By 1986, the company had opened a new head office and factory in Vejle, Denmark, and over the next three years, it expanded into Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and England with new sales offices.
In 1987, DEVI launched its own range of thermostats, establishing itself as a systems supplier. By 1992, the company further expanded into Central and Eastern Europe, opening sales offices in Czechoslovakia, Poland, Russia, and the Baltic countries. A major innovation came in 1997 with the introduction of DEVImat™, a thin floor heating mat. The following year, in 1998, DEVI launched the world's first adaptive timer-thermostat, the DEVIreg 550.
DEVI continued to grow, acquiring the French floor heating company Deléage in 2001. In 2003, DEVI was acquired by Danfoss, and in 2012, DEVI made significant advancements in thermostat technology with the introduction of touch control and an adaptive touchscreen thermostat. That same year, the cable production was moved to the Danfoss factory in Grodzisk, Poland.
In 2016, DEVI launched the DEVIreg™ Smart mobile application, offering advanced control over room thermostats.
In 2021, DEVI introduced a new warranty policy that included comprehensive service and product warranties. The company celebrated its 80th anniversary that same year, relocating its headquarters to Kolding, Denmark. By 2023, DEVI reached a significant milestone, with 90% of its products covered by Environmental Product Declarations (EPD).
