Pipe frost protection

What Is Pipe Frost Protection?

Pipe frost protection uses electric heating cables installed inside or outside pipes to prevent freezing, maintain water flow and protect infrastructure during cold weather.

Pipe frost protection systems use electric heating cables to support temperature maintenance and frost protection in pipe networks exposed to low temperatures.
These systems are applied in a variety of residential, commercial and industrial installations where liquids are transported or stored within pipework. Typical applications include: Freshwater pipes, Wastewater pipes, Cooling water pipes, Supply water pipes, Fire sprinkler systems.

Electric heating cables can also be used for temperature maintenance applications, depending on system design, insulation levels, operating temperatures and project requirements.
Typical Applications
Pipe tracing systems are commonly used in: Single-family homes, Multi-family residential buildings, Hotels and hospitality facilities, Commercial buildings, Industrial facilities, Agricultural buildings, Public infrastructure, Supermarkets and retail facilities, Technical and sanitary installations.

How It Works

Heating cables are installed along the pipe and insulated according to the system design. When connected to a control system, thermostat or self-regulating technology, the cable provides heat directly to the pipe surface.
The suitability and performance of the system depend on factors such as:
  • Pipe diameter
  • Insulation thickness
  • Minimum ambient temperature
  • Required maintenance temperature
  • Installation configuration
